Refractive index 1.4147,
flash point (open cup) 35℃,
miscible with ethanol, ether, slightly soluble in water. Easy to polymerize.
Preparation
Acetone cyanohydrin reacts with sulfuric acid to produce methacrylamide, which is then hydrolyzed and esterified with ethanol to obtain crude product, and then dehydrated and distilled to obtain finished product.
Usage
MMA is widely used in polymers to prepare materials such as methyl acrylate resins and polymethyl methacrylate
Methyl acrylate resin is widely used in artificial corneas, dental fillers, optical lenses and coatings, etc.
Methyl methacrylate can be made into hard, transparent, temperature-resistant materials, suitable for the manufacture of automotive parts, optical fiber, glass, etc.
Safety
Ethyl methacrylate is a flammable liquid, pay attention to fire and explosion prevention.
Avoid inhalation of gases or vapors and use with proper ventilation.
Contact with skin may cause irritation and allergic reaction, direct contact should be avoided.
Do not take orally. If accidentally taken or injected, seek medical attention immediately.
Avoid contact with oxidizers, acids and alkalis during use and storage to avoid dangerous reactions.
