This product has the reactivity of secondary amine, easy to react with a variety of compounds, its derivatives have a wide range of uses.

Yellow transparent viscous liquid with hygroscopicity, with irritating ammonia odor, combustible, strongly alkaline. Soluble in water, acetone, benzene, ether, methanol, etc., insoluble in n-heptane, corrosive to copper and its alloys.

 

Preparation method

It can be obtained by ammoniation of dichloroethane.

1,2-Chloroethane and ammonia are fed into a tubular reactor at a temperature of 150-250℃ and a pressure of 392.3kPa for hot-pressure ammoniation reaction.

The reaction solution is neutralized with alkali to obtain mixed free amine, which is concentrated and sodium chloride is removed simultaneously, and then the crude product is distilled under reduced pressure to intercept the fractions between 195 and 215°C to obtain the finished product.

This method also co-produces ethylenediamine, triethylenetetramine, tetraethylenepentamine and polyethylenepolyamine, which can be obtained by controlling the temperature of the distillation tower to distill the amine mixture and intercepting different fractions for separation.

 

Uses

It is mainly used as solvent and organic synthesis intermediate, and can be used to produce epoxy resin curing agent, gas purification agent (for C02 removal), lubricating oil additives, emulsifiers, photographic chemicals, surfactants, textile finishing agents, paper reinforcing agent, ammonia carboxyl complexing agent, metal chelating agent, heavy metal wet metallurgy and cyanide-free electroplating diffusion agent, brightening agent, and synthesized ion exchange resins and polyamide resins.

 

Safety

This product is a strong alkaline corrosive liquid, irritating skin, mucous membrane, eyes and respiratory tract, can cause skin allergy and bronchial asthma.

Prolonged contact or inhalation of high concentration of vapors can cause headaches, memory loss, etc..

The maximum permissible concentration at the operation site is 10 -6. via LD1. 8mg/kg.

Avoid direct contact with the human body, splash and skin, immediately rinse with water or boric acid solution, then coated with boric acid ointment, serious cases sent to the hospital.

This product can be packaged in 0.5kg or lOkg glass bottles, this product is flammable, should be sealed and stored in a cool and ventilated place.
