Benzoyl peroxide is an organic compound. It is a colorless crystalline solid, soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether solvents.
Applications
Benzoyl peroxide has strong oxidizing properties and can be used as an oxidizing agent in organic synthesis reactions.
It is commonly used in benzene substitution deprotection reaction, ketone and enol oxidation reaction.
It can also be used as a raw material for the synthesis of foaming agents, plasticizers, pigments and dyes, as well as a catalyst for rubber, adhesives, polymers and so on.
Preparation method
The preparation of benzoyl peroxide is mainly obtained by the reaction of benzoyl peroxide chloride and peroxide. It can be obtained by the reaction of benzoyl peroxide chloride and peroxide ester under alkaline condition.
