1-Hexyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide CAS 916729-96-9

1-Hexyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide

Description:

1-Hexyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide, also widely known by its abbreviation [HMIM][TFSI] or [HMIM][NTf₂], is a hydrophobic ionic liquid (IL) highly regarded for its exceptional electrochemical and thermal stability. This organic salt is a liquid at room temperature and possesses low volatility, low viscosity (for an ionic liquid), and good conductivity. The bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide anion contributes significantly to its desirable properties, including its resistance to hydrolysis and wide electrochemical window. These characteristics make [HMIM][TFSI] a prime candidate for demanding applications such as high-performance electrolytes in batteries and supercapacitors, lubricants, and as a non-coordinating, highly stable solvent in various chemical processes and analytical techniques.
