Berberine hydrochloride, also known as berberine hydrochloride, is mainly used in clinical practice as a heat-clearing, detoxifying and antibacterial drug. It is often used to treat diseases such as bacillary dysentery, acute gastroenteritis, chronic cholecystitis, conjunctivitis, and suppurative otitis media. Berberine hydrochloride is an isoquinoline alkaloid and exists in many plants of 10 genera in 4 families such as the Berberidaceae family. Berberine can precipitate yellow acicular crystals from ether. Berberine is a quaternary ammonium alkaloid, and its salts have relatively low solubility in water.
