Properties
Solubility: sodium carboxymethyl cellulose has good solubility in water, forming a transparent solution.
Stability: under acid and alkali environment, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose can still keep good stability.
Swelling: the solution of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose will swell when heated, forming a gel state.
Applications of Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose
Pharmaceutical industry: used as binder and molding agent for preparing tablets.
Oil drilling fluid: used to improve the rheological properties of drilling fluid.
Environmental protection: sodium carboxymethyl cellulose can be used as an additive for degradation of plastics to improve the speed and effect of plastic degradation.
Preparation method
Firstly, cellulose is reacted with chloroacetaldehyde or formaldehyde, and then after appropriate treatment such as neutralization and washing, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is obtained.
Safety Information
Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is a relatively safe substance. However, you still need to pay attention to the following matters in the process of use:
Avoid contact with strong oxidizers to avoid fire or explosion.
Care should be taken to avoid inhalation of dust or contact with skin and eyes during use to prevent allergic or irritant reactions.
In case of inadvertent inhalation or contact, wash the affected area immediately and consult a doctor.
Storage and Handling
It should be kept sealed and away from ignition sources and high temperature environments. During use, necessary safety measures such as wearing protective gloves, glasses and masks are required.
