Hydroxyethyl methyl cellulose (HEMC) is a polymer with the following main properties and applications:
Properties
HEMC is a non-toxic, odorless white or off-white powder, which can be dissolved in water to form a viscous solution.
It has good adhesion, dispersion and stability.
It has high temperature and chemical stability and is resistant to acids, alkalis and solvents.
Applications
1. Used in pharmaceuticals as a hydrophilic gel skeleton material for the preparation of slow-release preparations, porogenic agent, coating agent. It can also be used as thickening, suspension, dispersion, adhesion, emulsification, film-forming and water retention agent.
2. food processing can also be used as adhesion, emulsification, film, thickening, suspension, dispersion, water retention agent.
3. Used as additives for toothpaste, cosmetics and detergent in daily chemical industry.
4. Used as cement, gypsum, lime gelling agent, water retention agent, powder building materials is an excellent admixture.
5. Hydroxyethyl methyl cellulose (HEMC) is widely used in water-based emulsion coatings, building extrusion profiles, biological agents, printing inks, oil drilling, etc., to thicken the role of water retention and improve the constructability.
Preparation method
Hydroxyethyl methyl cellulose reacts with methyl chloride to get hydroxyethyl methyl cellulose main chain, and then the hydroxyl group on the main chain is methylated with methylation by etherification reaction to get hydroxyethyl methyl cellulose.
Safety Information
HEMC is a relatively safe chemical, but protective measures should still be observed. Inhalation of dust and contact with skin and eyes should be avoided to avoid sensitization or irritation.
During use, it is necessary to maintain a well-ventilated working environment and avoid prolonged contact with highly concentrated solutions.
In case of accidental contact or inhalation of HMEC, flush with water or go to hospital immediately.
Dissolving method
1. Add the specified amount of clean water into the container.
2. add hydroxyethyl methyl cellulose under low-speed stirring, stirring until all materials are completely wet.
3. then add other components of the formula and stir well.
Packing and storage
Hydroxyethyl methyl cellulose is packed in cardboard drums or polypropylene woven bags (both lined with plastic bags), net weight 25.0kg per drum (bag).
The lid of the drum should be firm and the woven bag should be sealed. Attention should be paid to moisture-proof, ventilation, avoid sunshine, rain, and prevent contact with acid, alkali and strong oxidizer. Seal the storage container immediately after use.
Close the storage container immediately after use.
