Water solubility miscible
N-Ethylmorpholine is a colorless liquid with a peculiar amine odor.
It is miscible with water and most organic solvents and has good solubility.
N-Ethylmorpholine is soluble in acids and bases, is basic and can form salts by reacting with acids.
Applications
N-Ethylmorpholine has a wide range of applications in the chemical industry.
In addition, N-ethylmorpholine is used as a solvent for dyes, resins, rubber and plastics, and as a treatment agent for textiles and leather.
Preparation
N-Ethylmorpholine can be prepared by the reaction of ethanolamine and methacrylonitrile (or acrylonitrile).
First, ethanolamine is added to the reaction kettle and the temperature is raised to 70-80 degrees Celsius.
Then, methacrylonitrile (or acrylonitrile) was slowly added dropwise to the reaction kettle and reacted for 3-4 hours.
Finally, the reaction mixture is separated by distillation to obtain N-ethylmorpholine.
Safety Information
N-Ethylmorpholine has an irritating odor and care should be taken to avoid inhalation or contact.
Suitable personal protective equipment such as gloves and glasses should be worn during use.
Avoid contact with skin, eyes and mucous membranes, and in case of contact immediately flush with plenty of water.
In addition, it poses a certain risk of pollution to the environment, and waste should be handled properly and treated and disposed of in accordance with relevant regulations.
