Description
Stannous Octoate (CAS 301-10-0), also widely known in the industry as Tin Catalyst T-9, is an organotin compound [Tin(II) 2-ethylhexanoate]. It is one of the most common and highly effective catalysts used globally for the production of polyurethane (PU) polymers. It strongly promotes the gelling reaction (isocyanate-polyol reaction), making it particularly crucial in the manufacturing of flexible polyurethane foams used in furniture, bedding, and automotive applications. Supplied as a viscous liquid, Stannous Octoate requires careful handling due to its sensitivity to moisture and air (oxidation). As a key supplier, we provide high-quality Stannous Octoate T-9 for reliable performance in your PU formulations.
Properties
Property Description CAS Number 301-10-0 Chemical Formula Sn(C8H15O2)2 Synonyms Tin(II) 2-ethylhexanoate, Tin(II) octoate, Tin Catalyst T-9, Dabco T-9 (trade name example) Appearance Viscous liquid Color Colorless to pale yellow Solubility Soluble in polyols and many common organic solvents; Reacts with/hydrolyzes in water Density Approx. 1.25g/cm3 Key Characteristic Highly Effective Polyurethane Gelling Catalyst, Industrial Chemical, Sensitive to Oxidation & Hydrolysis Usage
Stannous Octoate’s primary application is as a catalyst in polymerization reactions:
- Polyurethane Foams: Predominantly used as the main gelling catalyst in the production of flexible polyurethane slabstock and molded foams.
- Polyurethane CASE: Also utilized in formulating polyurethane Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants, and Elastomers.
- Other Polymer Systems: May serve as a catalyst in certain Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) silicone formulations or in esterification processes, though less common than its PU application.
Disclaimer: This product is intended strictly for industrial chemical applications (e.g., polyurethane manufacturing). It is NOT suitable for use in food, drug, cosmetic, or any application involving direct human or animal contact due to its chemical nature and potential toxicity.
Packaging and Transportation
Our Stannous Octoate is supplied in appropriate industrial containers, such as steel drums or IBC totes, sealed tightly to protect against moisture ingress and air exposure. Transportation is conducted following standard regulations for industrial liquid chemicals, ensuring safe and compliant handling.
Storage
Store Stannous Octoate in tightly sealed containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Protect from moisture and atmospheric oxygen to prevent hydrolysis and oxidation, which can decrease catalytic activity. Storage under a nitrogen blanket is often recommended. Keep away from incompatible materials.
