Tert-butyl peroxybenzoate is a colorless liquid that is highly oxidizing and acidic. It is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. It decomposes easily at high temperatures, releasing oxygen.

Uses:

Tert-butyl peroxybenzoate is commonly used as an initiator for curing and thickening polymers, such as in the resin, coating and adhesive industries. It can also be used as an oxidizing agent, bleaching agent and acid catalyst.

Method of Preparation:

Tert-butyl peroxybenzoate can be made by reacting benzoic acid peroxide with n-butanol. The reaction generally takes place at high temperatures and in the presence of oxygen.

Safety Information:

Tert-butyl peroxybenzoate is highly oxidizing and acidic and is classified as hazardous. Contact with skin and eyes may cause irritation and burns. Appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves and goggles, is required when working with terbutyl peroxybenzoate. It should also be kept away from open flames and heat sources and avoid contact with combustible materials. During storage and handling, care needs to be taken to prevent improper use and leakage of terbutyl peroxybenzoate to ensure safety. When disposing of waste, local environmental protection regulations should be followed
