General information:
Ammonium ferric citrate is also known as ammonium ferrous citrate. There are two types: brown and green. It is odorless, with a salty taste and a metallic smell characteristic of iron. It is highly hygroscopic and can be reduced to ferrous salts by light. In solution, its stability is even worse. It is easily soluble in water and insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. Its aqueous solution is neutral. Compared with the brown variety, the green variety is more easily reduced by light. The brown flaky ammonium ferric citrate has a higher iron content, while the green flaky ammonium ferric citrate has a lower iron content.
